Helene Parker

About Denton Divorce and Family Law Attorney & Mediator Helene G. Parker

Helene Parker is a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced family law attorney serving clients in Dallas, Denton, Collin Counties, Texas. She has been practicing family law for nearly 17 years.

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Helene grew up and attended college in Southern California. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton where she completed a double major in History and Art. Helene then moved to Hawaii, where she received her Master of Arts degree in Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii, and subsequently obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, during which time she also spent 2 semesters at SMU School of Law as a visiting student, studying international business law.

Background in Public Service

During law school, Helene relocated to Texas.  She began her legal career as a Staff Attorney for the Dallas Legal Hospice (DLH) providing legal services to terminally-ill indigent clients. Her practice at DLH focused in the areas of AIDS law, public benefits law, estate planning, and family law.

In 1999, Helene accepted a position as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. As an Assistant Attorney General, Helene was responsible for litigating paternity actions and complex child support enforcement cases. It was here that she developed her affinity for cases involving complex interstate and international child support issues.  The years spent at the OAG, negotiating, litigating, and settling hundreds of child support cases, taught Helene how to negotiate and settle cases efficiently and effectively, and paved the way for a career in mediation.

A Compassionate Full-Service Texas Family Law Attorney

Helene entered private practice in 2001, first co-founding the law firm of Mosher & Parker, P.L.L.C., and then transitioning into solo boutique family law practice at Helene Parker & Associates L.L.C. Presently, Helene focuses her Texas family law practice in the Denton County area, although she gets calls from clients all over the world and is sent by clients to far reaches of Texas to litigate family law cases.

Helene litigates complex custody cases, property division cases, CPS cases, and difficult divorces.  She also handles domestic partnership dissolution cases and particularly enjoys litigating Hague Convention cases (also known as international child abduction cases).  Additionally, she represents clients in termination of parental rights and adoption cases, and is selective about what type of animal rights cases she takes on.  Helene is regularly appointed by the courts to represent children or parents in CPS cases.

Helene is trained as a Texas family law mediator and is a credentialed mediator, having mediated cases for over 12 years.  After 17 years in the family law arena, Helene is a firm believer that litigation is always the last resort for families going through divorce.  Not only is litigation costly (financially, emotionally, and psychologically), it also destroys relationships and harm the children.  Her philosophy is to find a peaceful alternative that will preserve the parents’ future relationship with each other and promote effective and open-dialogue co-parenting for the best interest of the children.  To that end, in all cases involving children, Helene will have a frank and serious discussion with the client about their overall objectives and whether those objectives would serve the best interest of the children.

Helene believes that a family lawyer has a duty to educate and counsel the client regarding the impact that the client’s actions may have on their future relationship with the child, their future relationship with the other parent, and the child’s future emotional and psychological development.  Therefore, Helene is selective about her clientele, because she wants to make a difference in the client’s life and ultimately protect the child in the case.

A full-service Texas family law law firm, Helene Parker & Associates L.L.C. handles cases including, but not limited to:

For many years, Helene volunteered her services Legal Services of North Texas, and provided pro bono legal representation to the seniors at The Colony Senior Center.  These days, however, with a busy law practice, family obligations, and a house full of wayward pets, Helene spends her limited spare time avoiding exercise and trying to finish her “to do” list. She does read for pleasure, loves her yoga and her bicycles, helps out with the rescue of abandoned animals, and tends to her beloved dog, cats, and the assorted wildlife that visits.
